FOR WOMEN'S HEARTS

Heart Disease continues to be the number one killer of women in the United States. Women and Heart Disease is a challenging diagnosis. Women often present with different symptoms than men, whether it be jaw pain, back pain, shortness of breath, or other symptoms which are less obvious than typical chest pain. Testing is also different in women. Some tests are more difficult to interpret, and sometimes heart disease is actually missed due to the unique nature of a women's heart. Therefore, it is extremely important that you and your physician work together to assess your risk for heart disease, and the need for individualized treatment and evaluation. That is why Lenox Hill created a For Women's Hearts Center, led by women and devoted exclusively to treating women and heart disease.

The Heart and Vascular Institute of Lenox Hill Hospital is a multi-specialty cardiovascular program designed to diagnose and treat all aspects of the heart and arteries of the body. In our holistic evaluation, we assess the coronary arteries of the heart causing heart attacks, the carotid arteries which are often implicated in stroke, and the arteries of the extremities which may lead peripheral vascular disease.

Special services for valvular heart disease, structural heart disease, high-risk pregnancy, arrhythmias and heart failure are an integral part of the program. Screening evaluations, early diagnosis and treatment services are offered with world-renowned cardiologists, and advanced technology in coronary artery calcium score and CT angiography, and are integral parts of prevention and diagnosis. Lipid evaluation includes sub-typing lipids to understand each individual woman's risk.

For Women's Hearts provides an integrated and comprehensive approach in evaluating a women, including an extensive medical history, psychosocial history and family history. Lifestyle issues, including diet and exercise, are fully analyzed and become part of a treatment plan. Laboratory analysis, including lipid fractionation, and diagnostic testing, including stress testing, echocardiograms, calcium scores, CT angiograms, and nuclear stress testing help aid in fully analyzing a women's risk and in further establishing a treatment plan. Every woman is an individual, and her individual treatment plan is our greatest concern.
